Coup in Tunisia

Important blogging tip: when a coup happens in a country you went on vacation to a few years ago, use the opportunity to dig out old photos and write a blog post about your trip.

I enjoyed our trip to Tunisia a few years ago. My husband didn't like it so much because we stayed in a tourist area and it didn't feel like a real place. Here we are:

But it would feel like a real place now with riots in the street, shots being fired, places being burned down. Tourists in the town we stayed at are now locked in their hotel rooms and can't leave. Air space has been closed by the military so no one can enter or get out.

I'll tell you what's scary about Tunisia -- or was -- every single shop had oversized pictures of their president Ben Ali on the walls. It was like he was keeping an eye on you wherever you went.
