This is why you're fat

Hey, I haven't put up any photos from the This is Why You are Fat blog for a while.

I liked these, a foot-long hot dog threaded through onion rings, served with cheese and bacon on top and a ten layered multi-coloured chocolate chip sponge cake, each separated with a layer of icing. It makes my eating today look positively virtuous. (I had a big sandwich, a bag of crisps/potato chips and some chocolate for lunch. I felt bad about eating that much but it was all soooo good.)

Here are the pics:

What have YOU eaten today? 'fess up in the comments section.

We had a special date day today, so I fixed a cooked breakfast (scrambled eggs, vegetarian bangers, mushrooms and whole wheat toast made from a loaf I baked yesterday) so that we could go to a midday screening at the cinema (and no, we didn't have any candy) and tonight we had a Moroccan dish with chickpeas and vegetarian chicken-like bits in a spicy sauce over couscous with chopped courgette (from the allotment) and sun dried tomatoes.

That sounds delish. What movie did you see? I was thinking about going to see Public Enemies but the reviews are mixed so might not bother.

I had homemade pesto and shrimp for dinner but am feeling sort of ill tonight. I hope I don't have swine flu as will be so embarrassed that I exposed the book club.

Fruit, more fruit and ravioli + home made tomato sauce & basil; Impending holiday so I'm cutting down so that I can squeeze into my speedo's!

The multi-layer cake looks like a core sample from a mass grave! And the hot dog thang looks like a Japanese sex toy. No thanks, I'll have the tofu...:):)

I've had some leftover mushroom ravioli from our fancy meal out last night (breakfast) and for lunch a guacamole salad over shredded lettuce with an orange-cumin SOuthwestern vinaigrette at a cute little cafe'. El Carnivoro gobbled some beef fajitas.

Meant to say, Theresa, your food sounds luuuuurvely. That Moroccan dish especially!

Speaking of food: you all should run right out and get a copy of *Julie and Julia* by Julie Powell, the writer who cooked every recipe (all 568) in *Mastering the Art of French Cooking.* HILARIOUS and bawdy (She types, and says, F**K every third word)...it all started out as a blog, and then some editor got wind, and now she's famous. GREAT read for summer...

Thanks, Brenda, although I have to confess that I did use a jar of sauce to cheat on the Moroccan thing, but I did chop the veg for the couscous with my very own hands and yes, that book is hilarious! I read it three years ago when we first moved to England and lived without a television for a year.

Are you aware that the movie based on the book, starring Meryl Streep (Julia) and Amy Adams (Julie) is coming out in August? Nora Ephron is directing and wrote the screenplay, so I have high hopes it'll be entertaining. There's no way I'll get Vince to go see it with me...he hates Meryl Streep..."she's always cryin' or dyin'..."

Actually, I haven't stopped eating from the moment I woke up. I took the kids out to breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts, where I had a blueberry muffin and coffee. We ate as we drove to Spicer's, our favorite orchard, where we picked raspberries and cherries. Well, the kids picked them; I ate them. We got cherry slurpees to take home. When we got back, 15 minutes had passed before we had eaten so of course I was hungry. I had leftover vegetarian chili from last night and cornbread for lunch. Then the kids and I went out to a museum, and that made us hungry. So we picked up fries and had them for a snack. I made some healthy bran muffins, and since they're healthy they have no calories - so I had one of those, along with a handful of almonds and more cherries. Later I'll have French toast. I hope I'll be able to shovel more in before bed.

p.s.) I forgot to mention that after the fries and before the muffins I had some popcorn. I add that because I did not want you to worry that I had gone hungry those 10 minutes.

Sorry I submitted that twice. I'm so hungry (I haven't eaten in 10 minutes) that clearly I can't think straight.

Thanks Michigan Mom. That sounded like a fun day, full of delish food.
