Yay! We're in America for a week. We just took this picture in front of the little Statue of Liberty in the Newark airport. We have a long layover now but will be in Orlando later. I can't wait to see some sun. We have had the worst weather in England lately.

Thank you for bringing your big fat Euros to our starved American economy. Otherwise folks in Florida might have to pay income tax!
Hi Mickey. Actually we don't use Euros in Britain - still the old pound sterling, although that's pretty high against the dollar too at the moment.
Don't forget to have a pint at the English pub at Epcot! :-)
Euros---ouch! I'm getting some money changed today for my Venice trip, and it is like bleeding from an open artery.
If you think that's bad, just you wait until you get to Venice and see how high the prices are, even for Europeans!
It's really funny how things have changed. I remember the time - not very long ago - when Americans would visit Europe with their mighty dollars and throw them around (so it seemed to us, anyway) like monopoly money. Now it's America that's being bought up by outsiders.
Bren, it's on the news today that Harry's Bar in Venice, home of the delicious Bellini, is discounting its drinks for American tourists being killed by the weak dollar so make sure you stop in for a drink. Umm, those Bellinis can make life worth living.
We were in Venice throwing our Monopoly dollars around last summer, and TRIED to throw some into Harry's Bar! They politely asked us to leave because LE had on shorts! I took a picture of him exiting in shame, bare knees showing and all. But then we took a train to Padua and had deliziosi Bellinis in "Il Petrocchi" bar, so all was not lost.
Another uber-snobbiste place is the Royal Danieli ho-tail in Venezia---we wanted to get pictures of ourselves enjoying overpriced hi-balls there in the gorgeous bar, but the staff discreetly threatened to kill us if we took fotografie.
When I get back from Italy I'll post a recipe for something called "sgroppino"---a mystical magical mix of prosecco, lemon ice, vodka(?) that is sooooo heavenly. Eliz, it's like an "Icee" from our chilehood but with good strong booze in it.
I had something like that at Olive Garden the other night -- it was frozen lemonade, limocello and vodka -- it was heavenly.
But when in Venice, you must have at least one Bellini.
Did you learn the trick of standing behind columns in St Mark's Square so you can hear the music better than the people paying $20 for a drink in the outdoor cafes?
